Albidona, where history and legend merge
Albidona emerges as a small mountain jewel nestled between the Upper Ionian coast of Cosenza and the majestic Pollino Massif, almost touching the borders of Basilicata. This ancient center stands out for its privileged position that embraces diverse territories: from the Apennine peaks to the sea, where a short stretch of pine forest and a small beach guarded by the historic Saracen Tower extend.
The mythical origins of Albidona are lost in Homeric legend. According to tradition, the village was founded by a group of refugees led by the soothsayer Calchas, who after the Trojan War landed on the shores of Calabria Citerior. Here the legendary seer found his final resting place, leaving his name forever linked to this land on the border between myth and reality.

The Tower of Albidona, sentinel of the sea
The Marina Tower, also known as the Monks’ Tower, stands on a small hill facing the sea as a silent witness to centuries of history. Built in the 16th century to defend against the Saracens, this imposing cylindrical structure 12 meters high features 2-meter-thick walls and an evocative internal spiral staircase. Restored in 1981 by local craftsmen, the tower today represents one of the emblems of the Albidonese community, offering a privileged view of the Ionian coastline.
